  • Your external hard disk drive is an HDD that can connect via USB so that's why it can carry a lot more space. With SSDs you have to sacrifice space for performance and that's why your Macbook has so little space. Most expensive laptops come with SSDs because they are a lot faster since they aren't spinning like hard disk drives. Right now in laptops you can get either an HDD or SSD.

You could also use the cheaper Airport Extreme and connect your hard drive but I'm pretty sure you have to disable the Virtual CD Drive (WD Unlocker) first and the transfers won't be as fast as the Time Capsule since the connection is USB 2.0 (although songs and photos I think would be fine).Īnd I'm assuming you have a newer Mac with an SSD since you're complaining about the hard drive space. An Airport Time Capsule would be the best I would think but they are a bit on the pricey side since it is also a good router. Normally one wire is the USB and the other is a power cable which is connected to an outlet. No the big fat drives won't help they'll just be fatter and maybe more lights to blink. There might be some programs where you could possibly disable the USB but after a quick Google search they all seem like unplugging it will be your best bet at this point. Have you tried it yet I haven't so I don't know it it works or not.Īnd if that doesn't work then to answer your question, sadly, the easiest way is to unplug it when you're not using it if you find it really annoying.

I have my PC beside my bed and even though I turn my computer off the drive is still on (feature is supposed to be for smartphones and stuff but I wish I could turn it off but no option to) and it flashes it's annoying LED at me.īTW my drive has this sleep timer feature. I have the same problem but with a Windows PC and a My Passport (Non-ultra).
